We got a parcel of letters from the Oss students during winter. We started planning our journey. The preparation took the whole year and on the 14th of February bus Karosa with two drivers, students and teachers left towards Pomezí n.O., Frankfurt and Trier in February. We spent half a day by sightseeing in Luxembourg and half a day by sightseeing in Brussels as well. Passing Liége we reached Oss. There were H. Pouchová, V. Švihlík, J. Černá, Keith Wangle (American teacher of English) in our group. Crocuses in Luxembourg and tulips in the Netherlands were in bloom while there was a tough winter with a lot of snow in our homeland. How symbolic! There were Nol van Tiem, Ko ten Hacken, Hettie Benschop and Roel Bukman in the Dutch group.

There was prepared a great programme for us. This programme with small changes has still worked until now. We went to Amsterdam through Naarden, where we could visit the house and the grave of J.A. Komenský. We also went to Rijksmuseum and on a boat trip through canals. There was a big trip on the second day. Firstly, we were amazed by Kinderdijk and its windmills, government buildings and the parliament in Haag. Secondly, kids and adults were impressed by Maudurodam. In addition, we visited beaches in Scheveningen (some enthusiasts were bathing even in February). It was not the end. We went on a spectacular tour to Rotterdam. There, we got the opportunity to see a historical centre in contrast to new skyscrapers and all kinds of crafts in this beautiful city. We visited Philips factory and Organon factory and an opera in the local theatre in Oss. There was also a time to rest in a swimming pool. The most of us got to know culture of Western Europe for the first time.

Ing. J. Černá recalled: ”We saw a lot of interesting things, but the best impression was made by people: our friendly hosts, Rijskmuseu guides, employees in Philips, students, parents… and particularly all teachers from the TBL. That’s why I like the Netherlands. I went there again after years, without students, but with a nice feeling that I would see my old friends again…“.

The Dutch group arrived on the 12th of May. We prepared the programme for them at school, sport activities, sightseeing. They saw Terezín, Ploskovice, Hřensko, the Střekov castle and they spent three days in Prague.
